The winner of the first prize of the Carnival Painting and Craft
Competition organised by the Directorate for Educational
Services was won by Greta Grassi, a form 3 art option student.
Her painting was executed in acrylics. The second won prize for
the Miniature Float Section was won by Christina Pepper, a Form
5 Craft Option student. Certificates were also awarded to all
those students who took part in the competition. The prize
giving ceremony was held at the Foyer of the Educational
Directorates in Floriana on Friday, 12th February 2010.

Carlos Farrugia was invited for a talk with the Media
Group students. During his presentation he described to the
students several aspects of his personal life. He strongly
believes that through drama, one could gain more
self-confidence. Moreover he emphasized on the fact that one
should always pursue his dream, no matter the difficulties one
may encounter.

Rene Rossignaud, a prominent Maltese
photographer, was invited to our school to deliver a talk to the
Media Group students. During this talk, Rene talked about his
personal life, and also his photographic career. He shared
several personal experiences which he encountered throughout his
photography (such as experiencing war in
Gaza). Throughout the talk, Rene
emphasized the importance of persisting once’s dream. The
students were also given the opportunity to ask him questions.

Friends of the Earth – Malta invited us
to participate in a campaign to further the message on the need
to act now in the face of climate change and the carelessness
with which many countries are using up their natural resources
without thinking long term about what they leave behind for
future generations of human kind.
Our school, represented by the MEDIA
group, participated in this campaign and sent some pictures to
support this cause. One photo was exhibited in an exhibition at
St James Cavalier, and another one was printed on Friends of the
Earth – Malta 2010 calendar.

On Friday 18th December 2009, the
school Christmas concert was held. Various items were displayed,
such as: dances, songs, and even acts.
The school Christmas disco was held
on Tuesday 22nd December. This disco was well attended and
everybody had a great time.
Special thanks would go to all
those involved in the organisation of these events!

On Wednesday 18th November 2009, with the help of
the Maltese Council
for Sports, an educational outdoor activity for the form 4s was
organised. The students went trail walking at Golden Sands and
Għajn Tuffieħa. The students walked to the tower near Għajn
Znuber and also went by the three cliffs, namely Rdum id-Dell,
Rdum Majesa and Rdum il-Wahx. Afterwards, the students passed
the area known as in-Naħħalija. |

On Wednesday 7th October 2009, Joe Zammit Ciantar gave a take
about the importance of reading. He gave particular importance
to reading in Maltese. Special reference was made to the Maltese
periodical Saghtar. He even talked about himself being the
editor of this periodical.
At the end of the talk, he distributed a small book about
Maltese publications. He even gave each student, a
calendar with Maltese typical scenes.
