Extra Curricular Activities

The Head of School together with the staff organises various school based activities such as Animal Awareness Day, Healthy Breakfast, Carnival Activities Christmas Activities, Family Day, BBQs, training of our pupils in the community, twinning with other schools, etc. The classroom staff plans educational outings to various places of interest. These will be related to the theme of the week. The main aim of these activities is to give first hand experience to pupils in areas discussed in class.

School Council

The centre has a council which is composed of the president, the secretary,  a treasurer, three parents and three members of staff. The council works in collaboration with the staff to support pupils and parents. Various activities are organised with the help of the council

Working with other schools

Since the scholastic year 2000/1 we have been receiving weekly visits from students from other schools for a number of reasons. It is beneficial to have young students acquire experience of working with children with disability. As future adults, they will become sensitive to the inclusion in all aspects of society of people with disability. On the other hand, the students of San Miguel benefit from meeting other students and increase their circle of friends. At the moment we are liaising with the following schools:

  • Sir Luigi Preziosi Girl’s Secondary School - Pembroke

  • Stella Maris College - Gzira,

  • St. Aloysius Sixth Form College - B’Kara

  • Bice Mizzi Vassallo Primary School - Pembroke

Parental Involvement

Parents are also directly involved in the Educational Programme of their children. Individual Educational Programmes are held annually during the 1st school term. Students, parents and all those working with the child are present at the conference. Talks are also held during the year to inform the parents about the type of education their children are receiving. Contact books are provided by the school to keep contact with parents from day to day. Parents can make appointments to talk to the Head of School, or class teams, should the need arise. Parents are also involved in the Christmas Activities.

Working with NGOs

No man is an island. Where children are following special programmes given by NGOs we try and make certain that these programmes are followed in school. Parents are free to invite the organisations to attend the pupils’ Individual Educational Programme (IEP) Conference. In doing so both parties agree on targets set for the pupil and both sides offer suggestions and explain how to work together to achieve the desired outcome. Working together for the benefit of our students is the aim of all parties concerned.
