Services for Mainstream

San Miguel has been acting as a Resource Centre since 2007, and has been providing services to mainstream students. Services involve individualized Multi Sensory, ICT, Opti Music and Hydrotherapy Sessions on a weekly basis according to the students’ abilities and needs. The students attending Services are supported by their LSAs who are trained in these above areas by professional staff working as the Resource Centre’s Support Team.

Parent and Toddler Group

In April 2008, San Miguel launched its Resource Centre Services for Toddlers and Parents who are not yet of school age. The Parent and Toddler Group meets every Wednesday morning in the School Hall, and after a group HELLO!! Session a specific activity is carried out.

Activities vary from week to week, they are either individualised Sensory Circuits with a theme, or group Foot Programmes, Aromatherapy, Opti Music or a Pool Session. These activities target physical development and mobility, sensory stimulation and integration, cognitive development and specific skills such as eye hand co ordination, listening and attention skills, fine motor and cause and effect. Activities last up to an hour and a half.

The purpose of this group is to give support to parents who have young children with physical and learning disability. They learn what methods can be used to augment their children's learning in all areas of development. The activities also assist the professionals working with this group of toddlers to get to know their abilities and needs better before they join the Services for children in mainstream schools.
