San Miguel School and Resource

and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Their ages range
between three and twenty one
The school was officially opened on the 15th June
1989 by the Prime Minister of that time, the honourable Dr. Eddie Fenech
Adami. Originally the school was a British military building
but as years
went by the barracks were gradually transformed into a school.
Since 1999 the old part of the building has been refurbished.
An extension to the original barracks was built together with
a hydrotherapy pool.
- It is a single storey building
catering for the needs of pupils with Profound and Multiple
Learning Difficulties from the age of 3 onwards.
- It consists of six well equipped
classes to meet pupils individual needs, (changing
facilities are available in each class).
- It has a hydrotherapy pool, multi-sensory room, physiotherapy and speech therapy room, ICT area and a ball pool with a soft play area. The school’s main hall is used daily for morning assembly, curricular activities and sensory circuits.
- There are 43 registered full time pupils besides other pupils who come with their LSA for services from mainstream schools.
- Pupils are based in generic year groups.
San Miguel Febres Cordero
The school is named after Francisco Febres Cordero
(1854 –1910), from Ecuador, who joined the French Freres and
become a Brother.
Brother Miguel was a very dedicated
teacher and his teaching techniques were brilliant, thus
making learning fun for all pupils. Brother Miguel,
who had a deformity of the feet, was also writer and poet.
