A warm welcome to anyone visiting my website. The main aim behind the creation of this site is to continue providing, teachers and whoever is interested in the education of young children, with resources and ideas of integrating ICT in all subjects. I have tried to provide this not only through my own ideas but also through those of my family.
Let me start with some information about myself.
I am married to Norbert and have two children, David and Oriana 10 and 6 respectively. I enjoy reading, working crochet (when I am so lucky as to find the time!), I love horses and I have formed a small group of children who play the guitar and sing in church.
My work as a teacher
I fir
st began teaching back in 1991 when I graduated from the Malta University with a Degree in Education. After some years during which I taught years 2 and 6 in the primary sector I decided to go back to University and take up a Diploma course in I.T. in Education. I got so interested in I. T. that I decided to start teaching I.T. in primary schools, thus I currently visit 5 schools. During these visits I give demonstration lessons where I integrate I.T. into any particular subject. For example I usually introduce the lesson through a PowerPoint Presentation then provide activities which make use of the software available on their class computers. In the meantime the children awaiting their turn on the computer work out desk activities which include games, handouts, flashcards and other resources which I prepare using I.T. In this way the children are being exposed to the wide uses of I.T. , they are learning to work together and are being stimulated to learn in a new way. I have found through experience that computers stimulate self learning and is a boost to children who have lost interest in learning or are slow learners.
In schools I also am available to help in any problems that teachers may encounter in the preparation of their own I.T. lessons or for suggestions on how to improve the integration of ICT in the classroom. I have also been invited to conduct teachers' staff development sessions.
I enjoy helping out when the need arises thus providing support and encouragement. I have created two school websites which other than providing information about the school itself is a place where children can show off their work ( drawings and writings) to everyone. Also parents can follow up the activities happening in the school and access photos of school activities without having to leave home!
I would like to share what goes on in some classrooms so that teachers who are in difficulty as to how they can integrate ICT could adapt these ideas to their own particular classes. I also hope these experiences could provide encouragement to teachers who might not believe so much in the integration of ICT.
This site
Most children love ICT and so this is an ideal tool in helping them learn and at the same time have fun. The kids page has links to sites which provide educational entertainment but I also included a page worked out by my son. He will be providing kids with information about various topics from his point of view and through his eyes. There will also be links to sites which interest him as a child and much more. No one speaks the language of children more than children themselves and so I think this will be an interesting page for them.
I also had the idea of helping teachers of music integrate ICT. This may not sound like a subject which has anything to do with computers but as my husband, Norbert, has shown me, all those with a special talent in music can find help in further widening their talents through information, useful links and programs which help in creating, altering or reading musical scores.
I currently visit 5 schools, these are:
