Ghadira Nature Reserve

On the 5th of March 2008, a group of students attending our school were invited to take part in Dinja Wahda (One World).  As a matter of fact, they visited the Ghadira Nature Reserve and had the opportunity to appreciate the natural and beautiful environment of our island.

Students arriving at the Nature Reserve.
Learning about the formation of the Ghadira Nature Reserve, as well as about the various plants and different birds which visit throughout the year.

Understanding the food chain at the reserve.  Observing nature through a binocular and a telescope.  A unique opportunity to get immersed into nature.

More students appreciating the beauty of nature.  Walking through the path of peace and tranquillity of the reserve whilst trying to catch a glimpse of something unusual.

Birds in flight appreciating the clear blue sky over the Ghadira nature reserve.

A chameleon relaxing in the peaceful environment of the reserve, surrounded by a variety of flora and fauna.  On the right hand side, a duck having a swim whilst eating ruppia, a bushy underwater plant with a high salinity and alkalinity tolerance.

Mallards enjoying the shelter of the nature reserve whilst looking for more ruppia which happens to be quite abundant.
