Malta

The Maltese islands are a small archipelago of six islands (Malta, Gozo, Comino, Cominotto, Filfla and St. Paul's islands) in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, just south of Sicily. Our population is round about 394,000.
The largest island of the group is Malta from which the archipelago takes its name. Valletta is the capital city of Malta. The other inhabited island is Gozo. It is quite different from Malta in many ways and is mostly attractive for its less industrialized way of life. Gozo can be reached from Malta by ferry boat. Comino, Cominotto, Filfla and St. Paul's islands are all smaller islands in the archipelago. Of these, only Comino is inhabited (A single family leaves here). Comino owes its popularity to a popular tourist resort (A hotel) found on this island as well as to the very fine beaches it has like Blue Lagoon.

Malta's climate and blue sea have both helped to make our island an important tourist resort in the centre of the Mediterranean. The weather is hot in Summer, inviting tourists and locals to enjoy our many wonderful beaches. Winter is not too cold and this encourages people to visit our islands even in the 'cold' season.

Our history too plays an important part for our tourism. Malta is a country rich in culture and history. The historical remains found on our island (Hagar Qim, Gigantija, Tarxien Temples, Roman Villa etc.) are interesting historical sites that are really worth visiting!

Marsaxlokk

Marsaxlokk is a fishing village located in the Southern part of Malta. Tourists are much attracted to this place due to the colourful boats (luzzu) that can be seen anchored in the port. The fish market, which is held every Sunday, is also an attraction for tourists. Marsaxlokk also has a rich historical past and the remains found in this village, Tas-Silġ, Juno heights etc., are well known among historians and archeologists.
