Poetry is natural as song and dance. Actually it’s our first language. Our first words rhyme. It’s an instinct to be cherished in the child, a pleasure to be nourished as we grow older.
We who love poetry, poets, teachers, readers too often meet stony resistance in adolescents and others who have forgotten how language danced when they were small children. Adults remember only that we had to learn poetry by heart - (an excellent practice, by the way!)
Ms Rizzo (English teacher at Maria Regina) has compiled a number of poems written by students on different topics. Well done to these students! Come on, you others, we know there are more poets in our school. Come forward and share your delightful poems with us. View poems 2007-2008. View other poems.
2006 - 07: We of Form 1-01 together with our teacher Ms Rizzo want to share our passion for poetry by having them in cyber-space.
Here are Kimberlin Bartolo’s and Ruth Soler's poem about how they see colours after they were inspired by Christina Rossetti’s “What is Pink?”
Francesca Attard and Alessia Micallef reminisce about Christmas while Amy Agius writes about a breeze, a cloud and the sun.
Olivia Scerri wrote about "The Alphabet" while Elizabeth Boxall was inspired by Shakespeare's "Witches' Spell" and gave us her own version instead.
Enjoy!
