 Animal Awareness Day

On this particular day, the school held a special assembly organised by Mr. P. Rapa and Ms. R. Debono. There were two performances held: at 9.00am for Years 4-7 and at 12.45pm for Years 1-3. The assembly started with a powerpoint showing various animals. Children were stunned by the beauty of these animals. Then the choir sang "Kemm inti Kbir". Mr. Rapa then read prayers thanking God for creating animals and asking Him to bless them and help us respect them. The choir sang "Prayer of St. Francis". After that four children from 6A, 6B, 6C and Year 7 read four poems. These were "Il-Farfett", "The Hedgehog", "Goodbye" and "A Kitten." All prayers, songs and poems were accompanied by powerpoint presentations. Finally, Ms. Debono and Mr. Rapa entertained the children with a funny puppet show featuring different animal puppets. Children really enjoyed the activity and it is hoped that the lesson for the need to respect all animals has been learned by all.

October 16th: Educational Outing to The Limestone Heritage - Siggiewi

This educational outing was organised following a Social Studies lesson about Maltese stone. We left school at about nine o'clock and arrived at Siggiewi at quarter past nine. After waiting for a short time we were led to the audio-visual room where we watched a short video about Maltese Limestone and its uses over the centuries. Then we were given a pair of headphones and a cassette player and toured the exhibition which is situated in an unused quarry. After that we were divided into two groups. One group had a break while the other had a carving session, then we swapped. Children were given a small stone slab and carved an image of an animal or flower on it. Then they kept it as a souvenir. While having our break, some of us bought souvenirs from the souvenir shop.
It was a very interesting outing and we surely learned a lot from this experience.

November 13th: Educational Outing to Tarxien Temples

This educational outing was organised to complement our etwinning project about Historical places and monuments. We left school at nine o'clock. When we arrived we were taken on a tour of the temples by a guide who explained the most important aspects of the temples. Then the children were divided into two groups. One group was given a booklet with questions to answer about the temples while the other group had to draw the temples. After a short break groups swapped activities. It was a very interesting outing and children surely learned a lot about our prehistoric temples in Tarxien.

On this awaited day, Year 6 and 7 students visited the most important historical places and monuments in Valletta, among which were the President's Palace, St. John's Co-Cathedral and Upper Barrakka Gardens. The students filled in a worksheet while they toured around Valletta. The highlight of the visit was the meeting with His Excellency the President of Malta, Dr. E. Fenech Adami. Since our class (6A) and Year 6C are doing The Crocus Project - a project about the Holocaust - our teachers Mr. Rapa and Ms. Debono, prepared a special assembly for this day. First, the school choir came up the stage with lighted candles, which symbolised the lives of those who were killed in the Holocaust. Then the choir sang "Evenu Shalom" a song about peace in Jewish and Maltese. A powerpoint presentation followed about the Holocaust and reflections about what happened and what we can do today. The presentation was followed by the song "You Raised Ne Up" and two poems read by Mr. Rapa and Ms. Debono: "Imagine" and "Remember Me?". The assembly ended with the choir singing "Love Shine a Light".
The Year 6 students also watched the film "Anne Frank", to better understand the terrible fate of Jews between 1939 and 1945 through the life of this teenage girl from Amsterdam.

E-Twinning project by year 4.3

This scholastic year our class, Year 4.3, participated in an e-twinning project. We collaborated with a group of children from 'Scuola Elemetare, Iglesias' in Sardegna. We gave each other information about the islands we live in.  We drew pictures showing our national flag and the shape of our island. We also prepared some information about the town of Lija and we made a big colourful chart with pictures. We also sent letters, where we wrote about ourselves, our hobbies and even about our school. On the other hand, our friends from Sardegna sent us some information and pictures of their school and their teachers. They also sent us pictures about the town they live in and interesting places to go to when visiting Sardegna. We even shared some information about Christmas traditions and Carnival events. We ended our project by choosing interesting places in Malta and Gozo. We found pictures and we made different postcards during Mid-week. We learned a lot through this experience and we also made friends.
