St. Ignatius College, Boys Secondary, Handaq, placed first in a competition “L’italiano in Piazza” organised by his Excellency the Italian Ambassador to Malta Dott. Paolo Andrea Trabalza, The Principal Education Officer and Project Co-ordinator with the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education, Mr. Anthony M. DeGabriele (M.Ed) and the Education Officer within the same Directorate Ms. Bernadette Gerada.
The Italian Department of St. Ignatius College made it a point to integrate other subjects such as IT, Art, Drama and Home Economics. It was a joy to establish a collaborative atmosphere through these subjects so that every student could give his utmost regardless of his ability in the language. The main aim was to instil inclusive education which is regarded as an important aspect in our school. For this occasion students were chosen to participate in the musical titled: “Tra una piazza e un personaggio all’amore si da omaggio” compiled by the Italian Department and the students. The students embellished the school premises with their research on topics such as: Italian literature, food and beverages found in the traditional Italian bar, proverbs and jokes related to the Italian squares. Other students participated displaying their paintings and models of the most famous Italian squares. Traditional Italian events were displayed to the public through PowerPoint presentations. Students also prepared and cooked traditional Maltese food which was served to the guests after the activity. A great well done to all the students and teachers in particular the Italian Department within the same school who participated and helped in anyway to make this result possible. This first prize included a participation certificate and a cheque of 400 euro which the Italian Department within the school will use to provide resources and materials to improve the teaching methods of Italian within the school. |
