The Origins of Our School


In May 2000, the school was officially named after The Right Honourable John Hookham Frere, an English scholar, diplomat and great benefactor, who lived and eventually died in Malta.

The school is situated on parts of grounds that used to form part of the magnificent gardens of the villa where John Hookham Frere lived in the 1830's. on the hill of G'Mangia. His burial place is in 'Gnien il-Mistrieh'.

His Excellency, the President of Malta, Dr. Guido de Marco, delivering his speech to distinguished guests, teachers, parents and students, gathered for the occasion.

Official unveiling by His Excellency, Dr. Guido De Marco of bust of John Hookham Frere, done by local artist, Mr. Gianni Pace. Looking on  is Mr.Paul Bonavia,  headmaster at that time.

His Excellency the President,  the mayor of our local council,  Dr. Malcolm Mifsud and other distinguished guests, visiting the school's kindergarten section.
