When I first came to William Baker Primary School, back in May 2002, a date engraved in a marble plaque fixed to the side of the school’s main entrance, caught my attention. It said simply: 1953. Later on, leafing through the school Log Books, I learnt that the school had been officially inaugurated on the 1st of December 1953, nearly 50 years before.
I felt that the 50th anniversary of the official opening of the school deserved to be suitably commemorated. Besides a number of activities to mark the day, I asked historian Mr. Winston L. Zammit to research and write the history of William Baker Primary School. What follows is the result of his research. I hope you enjoy reading our school’s history.
