malta vs hungary - 2-1

'It was a great match' was the comment of the students present at the National Stadium, Ta' Qali to support the National Team. Thanks to that year's Headmaster Mr Huber, Mr Schembri (PSD), Mr Psaila (Physics) and M. DeBattista (Maltese), private transport was hired by the Students' Council. That match was a historical one since the National Team won 2-1, the first victory on our soil after the 2-0 victory over Greece (in 1975) in the same competition. These photos show the students of our school celebrating after a goal for the National side has been scored and also a general view of the match against Lithuania.

christmas decorations

At our school, students participate with great determination in the Christmas decorations. A Christmas Tree is put in the Foyer where it is carefully decorated. Students also decorate their own classes and the corridors. This photo shows students, together with Assistant Head, Mr. R. Vella, decorating one of the School Blocks for Christmas.

euro winner!

Joseph Vella, a Form 5 student at our school has been declared winner of the competition entitled 'Malta and the Euro' organised in collaboration with the EU.

The design; mostly executed in hard edge technique, features the 'gardjola' entwined with the euro symbol and various cuttings from local newspapers that reported about Malta's last preparations in adopting the new currency.

Joseph's work will be featured in a commemorative magazine supplement which shall be distributed for free with the Sunday Times issue of December 30th.

Other competitors representing Verdala BJL with equally valid entries were Andre Gialanze (first runner up in Heritage Malta's Terracotta Soldier Competition 2007), Karl Azzopardi and Matthew Abela.

Throughout these last years, Art option students have made their school proud by successfully competing and participating in various curricular and extra curricular activities. This certainly consolidates the rich artistic tradition that Verdala BJL is well known for.
