head of school's message

a positive start

Mr. Stephen Cachia - Head of SchoolIt is with great pleasure that I am writing my first message for the excellent website of Guzeppi Despott Junior Lyceum, Verdala. This website is an important medium which can help in ensuring that the positive work being done at school is highlighted while also serving as a communication tool among all stakeholders.

My first weeks at the school have been very positive and I am looking forward to working together with all the school community to help our students continue having a positive learning experience at our school. I am certain that all of us will be doing our utmost to work in a constructive and enthusiastic manner to ensure that a collaborative, friendly and open climate prevails in our school.

I am also certain that I will find the collaboration of all students and their parents in ensuring a positive climate at school in which everyone works in a welcoming and safe learning environment.

I feel I must take this occasion to sincerely thank Mr. John Sultana, Asst Head, for the way he has welcomed me to school and for the hard work he has put in during the summer to help ensure a smooth transition. Mr. Sultana also deserves special thanks for the role of Acting Head he took up with much dedication and commitment during the second part of last scholastic year. I also would like to thank Mr. Ray Vella, Asst. Head as well as introduce Mrs. Maria Pace, Asst. Head who has now also been posted to our school. Sincere thanks also to the teaching staff members, clerical staff and auxiliary staff who have welcomed me and helped me to start working immediately in my new role. Thanks also to those parents who have already starting working on a number of activities for the coming scholastic year.

I would also like to take this occasion to thank Mr. Joe Huber, former Head of School, Mr Tony Cutajar, former Asst. Head, who has now been appointed as Head of school at Sliema Boys' Junior Lyceum, and Mr Michael Zammit for his contribution as acting Asst. Head last scholastic year.

Sincere thanks also to Ms. Salvina Muscat, our College Co-ordinator, who has shown continuous support throughout the summer months and has helped our school in starting this scholastic year on a positive note.

Adelaide Cini premises will be once again hosting our school for this scholastic year until the final completion of the new school which is being built at Verdala, Cospicua. This year we will therefore be focussing on ensuring that all students and staff have a positive scholastic year in the present premises, while clearly looking forward to eventually moving to the brand new school which is being built.

So as the new scholastic year begins, I wish us all a positive start to a new year. I am certain that the commitment and effort of all will help us to have a positive year together.

Mr. Stephen Cachia
