Teacher Resources These are the resources which the teacher needs to download and/or print to carry out the activities in the Project Activities page. Check List of the butterflies found in the Maltese Islands A list of butterflies found in the Maltese Islands. This list is based on information available in the book Flora u Fauna ta' Malta by J. Sultana (1995). This book is available at the National Library of Malta at Floriana in the Militensia section. Print out a workbook full of activities for children on Butterflies and Moths. PowerPoint Presentation on Butterflies. Follow the links below either to view on-line or to download. Print out the PowerPoint presentation as Notes Pages as these contain more detailed information to complement the content of the slides. The presentation is saved in 97-2002 & 95 version. Anyone having difficulty in downloading or viewing the presentation can contact me on any of the addresses in the Home page for a copy of the presentation on CD. Stamps featuring Butterflies of Malta View a sheet of 16 stamps featuring the butterflies of Malta. These stamps were designed by Maurice Tanti Burlo'. This set of stamps was issued on the 26th June 2002 and each stamp has a value of 6c. Set of 16 Instruction Cards to complement each one of the children's activities found in the Project Activities page. These are in PDF format. Print each one out and fold in 2 across the middle section to create a stand up card or glue together and use a laminating machine to cover 2 cards at a time and then cut out. These bookmarks are found in the folder Butterfly Bookmarks. Each file contains 2 bookmarks each having a matching front and back. Download these files and store on the class computers. The children have to use the Print Shop Premier to open these 2 files. Click on the Name of School text box at the back of each bookmark and type in the name of the school and class. Set of 4 Posters showing the 4 stages of the Life Cycle in PDF format to be printed by the teacher. These are to be used for consolidation after the Power Point Presentation and left fixed in the classroom to be used as reference by the children.
Flashcards of Butterfly Parts Set of 9 flashcards of the butterfly body parts in 3 files to be printed by the teacher. Files are both in PDF and Print Shop Premier 5 format. Each file contains 3 flashcards. These are to be used after the Power Point Presentation on the class whiteboard together with the picture of the butterfly. The butterfly picture is in PDF format only. These should be left on the whiteboard so that the children can refer to them in case of spelling difficulties. Posters of Butterflies found in the Maltese Islands 21 Pictures of butterflies which can be found on the Maltese Islands to be printed by the teacher for Activity 8. These posters are both in PDF and Print Shop Premier 5 format. There are 8 on-screen activities to be used with the software Kid Pix Studio Deluxe. Four are in English and four are in Maltese. These are to be downloaded by the teacher and then stored on the class computers. This booklet has 4 pages and a cover and is in PDF format. The teacher has to print the booklet beforehand. The children are to colour, fill in the blanks and then cut out along the butterfly outline and assemble into a booklet.
Butterfly Journal
These pages describe each day of the life cycle with a picture and a short paragraph. The children cut out a picture and rewrite the short description in one of the circles of the caterpillar pattern. The pattern consists of 2 files in PDF format. One is the caterpillar head and the other is the caterpillar body. There are 2 circles for the body so print out or photocopy for 5 times to have 10 circles for the body in all. Green paper can be used for this pattern or if not available the children can colour the circles themselves. The Butterfly Journal is to be written on this pattern. Book of Butterfly and Caterpillar Songs and Poems There are 12 pages of poems and songs plus a cover for the book in PDF format. Print out all 13 files on A4 sheets of paper in different colours. You can either glue on cardboard and assemble or you can place 2 pages back to back, cover in plastic using a laminating machine and then spiral bound into a book. There are 13 worksheets in PDF format in all. These are needed to complement specific activities as well as for individual, group or whole class work. These 6 handouts in PDF format have step by step instruction for creating butterfly and caterpillar crafts. Name tags in butterfly format for the children to wear. Download the file on your computer by clicking on Run/Open and then Unzip.Open with the Print Shop Premier 5.
